Strength Without Violence is a project designed to reach out to men and boys for help in ending violence against women and girls. The goals of SWV are to raise awareness of the issues and the services available to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, to present options that may be used by families and friends to hold offenders accountable, and to recruit and train male volunteers to become the other half of the solution. Women have worked long and hard to stop these crimes, and men in our community have come forward to ask how they can help.
SWV was launched on Father’s Day in 2004. DASI sponsored a semi-professional NJ Cardinals baseball game. Give-aways such as hats, balls and t-shirts were distributed, and we were able to set up information stations in several areas of the stadium.

| The announcer read domestic violence and sexual assault statistics between innings, and ended the game with an announcement describing DASI services. Annual SWV events include the Mother’s Day pledge ad and Steppin’ In 2 Manhood, a conference for young men. |

Mother’s Day Pledge:
SWV sponsors an annual pledge signed by men in the community and published as an ad in the NJ Herald on Mother’s Day. |

A MOTHER’S DAY MESSAGE FROM THE HEARTS OF SONS WHO CARE |
| |
As sons who are committed to creating communities where women are safe from violence and abuse every day, we, the undersigned, pledge to honor mothers with more than flowers and brunch on this Mother’s Day. We pledge to work together to end violence against women and to cultivate a culture of peace, love and partnership.
As sons who care, as fathers and brothers, coaches and teachers, workers and managers, public officials and private citizens, we come together with one voice to say “Enough!” Our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and friends are entitled to live their lives free of fear of abuse and violence.
On this Mother’s Day we call on all men to pledge to show respect for women every day, not just on this special day. We call on men to mentor boys on how to respect girls and women, and to model healthy relationships. By signing our names below, we are making our personal commitment a public act.

Steppin’ In 2 Manhood annual conference for young men:
Why a forum for young men only? To support them in recognizing and challenging the pervasive cultural messages that narrowly define masculinity, to provide an opportunity for them to discuss and appreciate the diverse and positive aspects of being a man, to collaborate on ways to confront societal stereotypes, and to gain skills helpful in relating to others. Additionally, the conference promotes peer leadership in modeling healthy and safe relationships. Workshops focus on communication skills, life scripting, and creating and maintaining healthy relationships. Workshops are creative and interactive, and have included video production of public service announcements, improvisational theater, and the writing and recording of “Step Up”, a hip hop song. |

Lyrics:
Face the challenge, step up to manhood
The power of a man is the power for good
Injustice going on
I just can’t stand it
Crimes against women
Should be reprimanded
Let’s get together and break the silence
Exercise strength
Without the violence
Treat your misses, like she’s fine
Don’t participate in violence, and crime
Sexual assault should be put to a halt
And if you don’t stop
It will be your fault
Face the challenge, step up to manhood
The power of a man is the power for good
Let’s get together for unity
The way Bambaataa did for his community
As men we have to take responsibility
For corporate Americas choice of music productivity
All we care about is women’s equality
We must stand together in the name of women’s integrity
Let’s speak out and be like a team
All come together, fresh like a dream
Face the challenge, step up to manhood
The power of a man is the power for good
