Law Enforcement and Medical Accompaniment

Sexual assault victims have a right to a Confidential Sexual Violence Advocate (CSVA).

Unless the victim requires immediate medical attention, she should be afforded the right to a CSVA before proceeding with a law enforcement statement or interview and a medical examination (NJSA 52:40-22).

CSVAs:

  • Help the victim understand her options
  • Provide support and crisis intervention counseling immediately following a sexual assault
  • Help the victim navigate the justice system
